Today you guys had some quality time with Mimi, as she came over to baby-sit you while we ran some errands. Believe me, you guys would not have has as much fun in Williams-Sonoma as I did. Tomorrow the plan is to go by the farmer's market, and I hope you two like it.

I realize that this is a pretty crappy photo. It's kind of grainy and backlit. But that face. I love it. For your reference, H, yes, you were eating puff puffs off the floor. You were so overzealous that you grabbed way too many and dropped them, then picked them up and tried again.

And speaking of those puff puffs. V, I don't know what it is, since you're able to eat all sorts of things (let's not talk about the fact that you essentially eat the same 10 or so things), and yet you love these little snacks. I think you eat more of them than your sister does.

While you're making a funny face in the picture, you were actually giggling your head off as you and Daddy were playing in Nana's backyard. I promise.

This is your camera. We were in the backyard, looking at your little garden. Which is barely a garden anymore, and more of a watermelon kennel. Two small plants have taken over the 6'x8' patch that used to have a lot of other things. You seem to be mildly interested, even though we started this project because Curious George had a garden, and you looooove Curious George. We've got a watermelon just under a foot long and I'm hoping that you'll be more excited when we can harvest and eat it.

7/22/10

Today I had a doctor's appointment, and since Nana had errands to run, too, she took H, and V, you came with me and your dad to my doctor's office. You were so funny today, playing with your pigtails and chattering away in the back seat.

The other funny thing is that ever since we went to the science museum to see the Dinosaurs! you think that every parking garage we go into leads to the Dinosaurs! Today you were asking about them as soon as we pulled in and making roaring noises. It was so cute we decided that we had to take you back this weekend.

H, I have to apologize. I mean, aside from the fact that I've put this photo up on the internet, the whole reason you're making that face in the first place is because I wasn't holding a spoon full of food in front of you. I don't want to make you sound like a little piggy. It's more that when it's time to eat, it's time to eat, and it's not time for anything else. Especially not your crazy mama trying to catch a photo of you. Now, in my defense, I was hoping to satisfy you with a bite of oatmeal long enough to get a shot of your eyelashes, which are gorgeous and so long that you'll never need mascara. I can tell you right now that V is going to be jealous.

So forgive me, H. I assure you that food was in your belly mere seconds later.

What a Day

Let's set the scene. I stayed home from work today, because I got sucker punched with a cold/food poisoning combo yesterday and still didn't feel right. I'm not sure what you guys think about having me home during the day. Wait, let me correct that - V, I know that you don't like it that I don't let you snack before dinner.

Today we discovered that H has two new teeth, and she decided that she'd put them to use by attempting to take a chunk out of V. In all fairness, V was trying to take away a toy H was playing with, and H may have been trying to give V a kiss. For H, kissing = licking. Oh, and V, I swear you're trying to thwart my new project, as you've now decided that hiding from the camera isn't good enough and that you instead should run away from me as I try to take your picture, calling out "yoo hoo!" to taunt me. Blergh.

7/21/2010

Kiddo, you're adorable and all, but you don't know how close I came to posting the picture that came 3.2 seconds after this one, the shot that has you crying your eyes out because I didn't have a spoonful of oatmeal ready for you. You see, a new spoon needs to be hovering in front of your little mouth at the exact moment that you swallow, otherwise...let's not think about otherwise.

And V, let's not talk about how many tries it took to get this one. There was the aforementioned running away and taunting, the hiding... I'll admit it: in the end, I had to trick you. "V, what's this?!" As soon as you turned around CLICK!

Starting With a Bang

One week ago I decided to start a project, knowing that with my track record this may very well fizzle into a great big heap of nothing. If I follow through with my project as intended, I'll end up with approximately 730 photos of my daughters, documenting them through a period when it feels like they change every time blink.

I have to admit, this project is selfish on multiple levels. In addition to the photos, I can keep my grandmother who lives out of town well-stocked with pictures, and the one who's always saying that I don't write down the cute things they do happy. Err, because right now I'm doing a bad job at both.

So here we go!

7/20/2010

Oh, my sweet baby H. Right now, you're 9 months, 11 days old. You're so sweet and man do you love to cuddle! I think that's all you'd do if you could. Well, let me amend that. Cuddle and eat. And poop.

And yes, that is snot coming out of your nose. Between you, your sister, your father and me this cold keeps circulating and kicking our butts. I know that in a few years you're really going to love that I preserved this mucus-y moment for you.

V. Today you are just shy of 32 months old, not quite 3. Your will is amazing, as is your tenacity and capacity for mischief making. Right now you're hiding from the camera and loving it. Also, you're not wearing pants. (Woohoo! One post in and I've already embarassed the both of you!) This pants embargo has been an on-going struggle and I will be so happy when it's over.

7/19/2010

Puffpuffs. The food of the gods, as far as you and V are concerned, nevermind the fact that puffpuffs are really just for you. Apparently, one day Nana walked down the hall for one minute and came back to find the two of you surrounded by puffpuffs, cramming them into your mouths as quickly as possible. She said that she couldn't get mad because you were sharing. Given that sharing is an issue that the two of you need to work on, I have to give her that one.

Hiding from the camera again. I can understand that. But let's face it, kid - you're a-freaking-dorable.

7/18/2010

There's not really a lot going on in this one, I'll admit it. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and get it out now and say that not all of these are going to be beautifully laid out and photographed.

But that face. I love this one because of those chubby little cheeks and the rumpled hair and knowing that really, you're just waiting for me to look away so you can get to the books and yarn in the bookcase behind you.

Your first bike! And oh my god that helmet! You think it's the best thing ever. I mean, you like both (the past weekend has been a chorus of "My bike! My helmet! My bike!"), but you would not take off that helmet. Your hair would be all sweaty, and for a brief moment I thought that you wouldn't let us take it off when we left to go shopping. I took the easy way out. I hid it in the closet.

7/17/2010

Nakie baby! Enough said.

See what I was saying about that helmet?

7/16/2010

Waiting for a table at Chuy's, to have dinner with Mimi. Can I say how much I love that you let me put bows in your hair? It fact, it's more likely to come out because of your sister, and not you. V just seems to have some kind of vendetta against hair adornments, as she's never really let me do anything with her hair. I've only just recently been able to put pig tails in her hair, and even then, that doesn't always last.

Please let me continue to put stuff in your hair.

Look at those eyes! The color changes constantly, ranging from bright blue with greeny-gold centers, to sea green, to blue gray. It depends on what you're wearing, how you're feeling, what the sky is like outside - it's amazing to see.

7/15/2010

I don't remember what was on the table, but it was either 1, your sister's dinner; 2, something I had put up there to get it away from you; or 3, your new favorite, the remote controls.

At the moment, one of your favorite shows is Avatar, The Last Airbender. I find it funny that you love it so much, given that so many of the themes of tolerance, forgiveness, right and wrong, and family are so far over your head that you're not even close to aware of them. But you LOVE it. We watch at least one episode every night, and you call it "FIRE!" because in this show, people can manipulate the elements, and the firebenders seem (to you at least) to have the best way of fighting.

I like this photo because we see both you and Aang, the show's protagonist and namesake, in profile together.

7/14/2010

Full disclosure: Here it was, a mere two days into my self-imposed photo experiment, and I forgot to take a picture of H before she went to bed. In my defense, I only had a brief windo in which to get a shot; she goes to bed early and I have to feed her, V and myself when we get home. So after H went down, I snuck in and got this shot of one little foot sticking out of the blankets. It's telling, though, as H sleeps like this most nights, as does her daddy.

What you've got against the camera I'll never know. I have a feeling that you're going to make this super hard on me, V.

7/13/2010

At the doctor's for a check-up. We have photos of V doing pretty much the same thing (tearing up the paper on the table) at the same age. Although, she was quite a bit more uh, enthusiastic about it, to put it nicely.

What can't be seen is that the hair sticking up off the back of your head is sticking out at least six inches. I can't believe that my little bald baby is so big, and now has so much hair.

So that's a week. I'll try to be vigilant about posting, if anything because it takes too long to post everything at once!
